Free Coaching at JMI

The Centre for Coaching and Career Planning of Jamia Millia Islamia runs free coaching programmes for aspirants belonging to SCs, STs, OBCs and Minority communities who wish to prepare themselves for competitive exams either for jobs or higher studies. This year, the success rate of selection of candidates preparing at the Centre has improved from the previous years.

According to official figures provided by Jamia, five students associated with the centre have qualified for personality test in IAS, scheduled to be held in March/April 2011. Two students have qualified (Prelims) for Rajasthan PCS and two in J&K PCS. Four students have cleared their NET-UGC, fifteen have been selected in different engineering colleges and 20 in B.Ed. and E.T.E. programmes.

The funding for the Centre is available from the University Grants Commission and Ministry of Minority Affairs. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has sanctioned an amount of Rs.15 Crores for the establishment of Residential Coaching Academy for the Minorities, SCs, STs and Women in September 2010.

The Centre has started coaching programme for the aspirants of Civil Services and SSC examination and coaching is going on since October 2010.The Centre has successfully arranged top professionals of the country to coach the aspirants in different papers of General Studies, CSAT and optional subjects like History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Public Administration, Urdu, Arabic and Persian.

The Centre draws upon qualified faculty with professional orientation to meet the requirements of the coaching programmes. Students are selected for coaching on the basis of an entrance test conducted for the purpose, and they are offered classroom teaching, which is supplemented and strengthened by periodic tests and evaluation. The library of the Centre has a holding of relevant material on a variety of subjects which is replenished regularly to facilitate students’ access to current and relevant material available in the required areas.

    I am planning to go for IAS/IES upsc exams next year 2012 by opting my civil engineering subject, I would like to know this coaching is free for jamia passed out student also, I have done Civil engineering from JMI F/O Engg and Tech.

The Union Public Service Commission has introduced changes in the pattern of Civil Services (preliminary) examination which is conducted to select candidates for prestigious central services such as IFS, IAS, IRS, IPS and others. Now it is looking forward to bring some changes in the pattern of 'main' examination as well with effect from 2013.A panel has been constituted by UPSC to suggest possible changes in the pattern of Civil Service (main) Examination.
