RAIN ON THE ROOF
When the humid shadows hover
जब नम छायाएँ मँडराने लगती हैं
Over all the starry spheres,
सारे तारों से भरे आकाश पर छा जाती हैं,
And the melancholy darkness
और उदासी भरा अंधकार
Gently weeps in rainy tears,
धीरे-धीरे बारिश की बूँदों में रोता है,
What a bliss to press the pillow
तकिए पर सिर रखकर लेटना कितना सुखद है
Of a cottage-chamber bed,
एक झोपड़ी के कमरे के बिस्तर पर
And to listen to the patter
और सुनना उस टप-टप की आवाज़
Of the soft rain overhead!
जो सिर के ऊपर छत पर गिरती कोमल बारिश की होती है।
Every tinkle on the shingles
हर टपक जो छत की ढलानों पर गिरती है
Has an echo in the heart;
उसकी एक गूंज मेरे दिल में होती है;
And a thousand dreamy fancies
और हज़ारों सपनों सी कल्पनाएँ
Into busy being start;
मेरे मन में जीवन्त हो उठती हैं;
And a thousand recollections
और हज़ारों पुरानी यादें
Weave their air-threads into woof,
हवा में स्मृति के धागे बुनने लगती हैं,
As I listen to the patter
जैसे ही मैं उस बारिश की रिमझिम को सुनता हूँ
Of the rain upon the roof.
जो छत पर गिर रही होती है।
Now in memory comes my mother,
अब मेरी यादों में मेरी माँ आती हैं,
As she used in years agone,
जैसी वह वर्षों पहले थीं,
To regard the darling dreamers
वो प्यारे सपने देखने वालों को देखती थीं
Ere she left them till the dawn:
जब तक वह उन्हें सुबह तक छोड़ न देती थीं:
O! I see her kneeling patient
ओह! मैं उन्हें धैर्यपूर्वक झुकते हुए देखता हूँ
On the floor
फ़र्श पर
To look upon my face,
मेरा चेहरा देखने के लिए,
As I lay upon my cot
जब मैं अपने बिस्तर पर लेटा होता था
With my heart’s best love impearled
और मेरा हृदय माँ के प्रेम में डूबा होता था
On the darling dreamers face.
उन प्यारे स्वप्न देखने वालों के चेहरों पर।
